Research Objectives and Study Design

Our study entitled "Epidemiologic Profile of Residents with Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis in Lapu-Lapu City and Cebu City" aims to determine the following objectives:

  • To determine the demographic characteristics of residents of Lapu-Lapu City and Cebu City.
  • To determine the prevelance of soil-transmitted helminthiasis in terms of:
    • a. prevalence of infection among resident
    • b. intensity of infection
  • To determine the degree of association between socio-demographic characteristics and the prevalence & intensity of soil-transmitted helminthiasis.
As mentioned before by Magalhães et al. (2015), over 80 provinces in the Philippines have reported cases of infection. We take into account the demographics of the area which includes the socio-economic factors along with the frequency of the infection. The nature of this study will utilize a descriptive quantitative design because the study site and the population to be studied will be large and widespread.
